[Lead Connection to Violence]

Community Forum

Stopping youth violence and understanding its connection to lead exposure in children is the topic of a community breakfast forum September 15 at Rochester City Hall.

The city, county and local activists will make presentations at the event hosted by the Rose and Joseph Denaro Interfaith Center for the Study of Genocide and Violence Prevention.

The evidence is clear that early lead exposure leads to troubled behavior later. That according to Dr. David Broadbent from the Coalition to Prevent Lead Poisoning and member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Lead Poisoning.

"We know that lead in infancy causes loss of IQ, behavioral problems, and learning problems. That translates into kids in elementary and secondary school acting out, that in turn translates to many kids dropping out of school because they just don't get along in school," said Dr. Broadbent. "In their spare time they do dumb things in the community."

The free event is in City Council Chambers in City Hall Starting at 8 a.m.

For more information, please call Dr. Esther Denaro-Maltese, founder and president of the Rose and Joseph Denaro Interfaith Center at 225-3952.
